The Moroccan Traverse

Starting from Islane at the far western end of the Atlas mountains we aimed to complete an un-supported winter traverse of the "Ridge of 100 Peaks" to the Tichka Plateau. A lack of late-season snow had left the route very dry and we spent five hot and tiring days above 3000m. On the morning of the sixth day we were engulfed in a near white-out as we descended to the mountain hamlet of Tigouga from where we hitched back to Marrakech for a well earned tajine (and pizza).

The Watkin Path

There are many ways up Snowdon. I've climbed or walked almost all of them, but never the Watkin Path. Until today that was!

Winter is still in

...just! To compensate for a Saturday spent in t-shirts in the sun, we had an early start and soloed Central Trinity up to Snowdon. There was still plenty of snow, and a tasty piece of ice just next to the bottom of Left-hand Trinity. By the time we summited, the mist was back and we hurried down over the top of Lliwedd for breakfast.

Sunshine on Cromlech

What a bloody brilliant piece of rock Dinas Cromlech is. Basking in the sunshine, myself and Steve started on Sabre Cut before heading around towards Noah's Warning. However, after a short nap in the sun at lunch turned into a much longer rest we decided that was enough and headed down. I don't think the views across Snowdon have been this good in months.

Froggatt Cracks

Eleven great routes with Steve at Froggatt in the sun gave me a painful introduction to crack climbing. Managed to get 6 leads and 2 solos completed, although Valkyrie will have to wait for another day...

Two days on l'Aiguille du Midi

Two great routes up on the Midi, on Tuesday myself and Becky did the Arete des Cosmiques up to the Aiguille du Midi. After a night dug in on the Vallee Blanche, we used a 3:30am start to complete the Midi Plan Traverse (out and back) in around 9 hours total.
